When I Die…

Posted in Uncategorized on February 24, 2008 by Usman

Salaam,

I hope everyone is in the best of health and in the state of ever increasing Iman. Allah says “Verily man is forgetfull”, it is indeed the truth that we forget. We forget the purpose of our life and the most important thing that we forget is that too reflect over our own death. The other day I thought about how I was going to die. In what state will I meet my lord in? Will I die in a car accident listening to music, will the angel come and take my soul as I am studying for an exam? I think how will it be. Would I have wished to concentrate on my Prayer better that day? Would I have wished to lower my gaze that day? Would I have wished to make dhikr that day? When I die what state will I be in? Will i be ready to meet my lord or not?

These are the questions my brothers and sisters that we must reflect on. We must ask ourselves are we Muslims, not only that we believe, but have we submitted to the will of Allah. When we die will we be confident that we are going to succeed and be permitted into jannah? The questions are endless, and so are the thoughts. But we need to start living our lives according to Allah and his Messenger. That is our success in this life and in the next. We need to start making fajar prayer and the rest of our prayers. We must study Islam, if we dont know and understand our deen then how will we follow it. I hope this is somthing that we all can benifit from, just a small reminder people. Check out this video, a video about our inevitable. The heart needs to beat…and so we stay alive.

Dua: The Weapon of the Believer

Posted in Uncategorized on February 14, 2008 by Usman

Salaam,

I hope everyone is in the best of health and in the state of ever increasing iman. Following up from the last post I would like to mention what Allah says about dua. He says “And your Lord has stated: Make dua to me, I will (of surety) respond to you. Verily, those who are too arrogant to worship me will enter the fire of hell, humiliated”. (Surah Ghafir, 6) This is amazing and should be a huge uplift to us to know and understand that Allah will without doubt respond to our prayers. This should be an incentive to always make sincere and special dua all the time. Allah is waiting for us to call upon him so that he may bless us. The Prophet Muhammad (saw) said “Dua is (the essence) of worship”. So when an individual is having a conversation with his lord and asking him to lift his burdens, this is worship. Allah has not made us for any other purpose than to worship him. Another thing to keep in mind is to be sincere in asking Allah, Ikhlas is the most important aspect of any action. So let us do what we do for the sake and pleasure of Allah (swt).

Ibn Qayyim the famous scholor of Islam said in a beautiful statement regarding dua. He said ” Dua and the seeking of protection from Allah are like weapons, but the sharpness of a weapon is not sufficient for it to cause effect, for the person that handles it also plays a role. So whenever the weapon is perfect one, having no flaw in it, and the forearm is strong, and there are no preventing factors, then it will cause an effect on the enemy. So to break it down, he is saying that one cant just ask Allah and not fulfill ones deen. It is commen sense that when you ask someone of anything you listen and follow what that person is telling you to do. That is amoung humans, it is even more so with the Lord of the Worlds, it is only right that a person try his best to be a proper Muslim and then Allah will respond to his duas for sure. The heart needs to beat…and so we stay alive.

Why does Allah not Respond?

Posted in Uncategorized on February 11, 2008 by Usman

Salaam,

I hope everyone is in the best of health and in the state of ever increasing iman. I have heard people say that I make dua and I make dua yet Allah does not respond to my prayers. They get frustrated and then leave dua. They fail to realize that dua is worship, and Allah is the most wise. A man asked Ibrahim ibn Adham “why is it that we make dua, yet Allah does not respond”. The famous ascetic replied in such a beautiful and striking way. He said, ” because you know Allah, yet you do not obey him. And you know the Prophet (saw), but do not follow his  Sunnah. And you know the Quran, but you do not act upon it. And you eat from the blessing of Allah, but you do not express gratitude for it. And you know paradise, yet do not strive for it. And you know the fire of hell, yet do not run away from it. And you know shaytan, but do not fight him, and instead obey him. And you know death, but you do not prepare yourselves for it. And you bury the dead, but do not learn a lesson from it. And you have left your own faults, and instead busy yourself with the faults of others”.

When I read this I had to read it over again because it is so true that we don’t obey Allah any more. The sad and most tragic part is that we only turn to Allah in times of hardship and need and forget about him in the good and happy times. I end with the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (saw) ” Our lord descends every night, during the last third of it, to the skies of this world, and asks: “who is making dua to me, so that I can respond to him? Who is asking me, so that I can give him? Who is asking my forgivness, so that I can forgive him”? We should never despair in the mercy of Allah as he is looking for excuses to forgive us. All we need to do is be patient and never lose hope in our Rabb. The heart needs to beat…and so we stay alive.
