The Call to Prayer

Salaam,

I hope everyone is in the best of health and in the state of ever increasing iman. Tariq Ramadan has wriiten a book called In the Footsteps of the Prophet. It is a book of seerah and it has lessons from the life of the Prophet (saw) that we must learn and reflect over. He wrote a great passage about the Adhan and I want to share it here with you all.

” This same, never-changing call, based on affirmation of Gods greatness (Allahu Akbar), the profession of faith ( I bear witness that there is no God but God and that Muhammas (saw) is Gods messenger), and an invitation to prayer and success in this world and the next, has for almost fifteen centuries been resonating¬†through Muslim towns and cities. In all its different intonations, rhythms, and voices, this call in its musicality expresses the union of faith and beauty, of spirituality and asthetics- just as the Prophet had wished it when he chose Bilal as a muezzin. It is a reminder of the One God who loves beauty, and who, five times a day, welcomes those who answer the beautiful call that invites them to meet the Most Beautiful (al-Jamil).

Ibn Taymiyah

Salaam,

I hope everyone is in the best of health and in the state of ever increasing iman. Shaykh ul Islam Ibn Taymiyah is one of the greatest scholars that Islam has ever seen. He has written many great books and has some of the greatest students such as Ibn Qayim al Jawziyah, the author of the famous Madarijas Salikeen. Ibn Taymiyah has said amazing things, but one of his great quotes is the following. “What can my enemies do to me? My Paradise is in my heart, it is with me wherever I go. To imprison me is to provide me with seclusion, to send me to exile is to send me away in the path of Allah and to kill me is to make me a martyr“. This is something we need to think about and ponder over. The heart needs to beat…and so we stay alive.
